|Review of Raheem Morris interview with the Falcons to become their head coach
The coaching staff of the Los Angeles Rams may suffer a great deal following
their postseason comeback. Raheem Morris, the defensive coordinator for the
Rams, is still interviewing for head coaching positions on other teams, and on Saturday, he checked off another box.
Morris was Atlanta’s interim head coach for 11 games in 2020, going 4-7 after the team went 0-5 under Dan Quinn. The
Atlanta Falcons, who fired head coach Arthur Smith after Week 18, announced they held a virtual interview for Morris.
This season, Los Angeles’ defense was ranked 19th with 22.2 points allowed per game, 20th with 337.1 total yards allowed, 20th with 231.1 passing yards
allowed, and 12th with 106.8 rushing yards allowed. This puts them in the middle of the pack.
Morris served as the passing game coordinator and assistant head coach for the Falcons from 2015 to 2019, when he
was elevated to the position of defensive coordinator in 2020. Prior to interviewing with the Falcons and Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday, the 47-
year-old Morris met with the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders on Friday.
Morris has been a head coach twice before, going 17-31 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 to 2011 (including a 10-6 season in his second season) and 4-7 in Atlanta.
Morris received a lot of support from coaches and players during his tenure in Los Angeles, and Rams general manager
Les Snead recently gave him even more praise. “Excellent person,” Snead remarked. No matter where you are in
the company, the guy is coded to treat everyone with respect and to establish relationships with them all. Despite
having the option to pursue many other endeavors in life, he made the highly intelligent decision to pursue football.”
Is Morris going back to Atlanta? How about getting a chance somewhere else? Time will tell, but it seems like he has a lot of contacts in the league
