|Auburn hires Will Redmond away from LSU as GM of Player Personnel
Will Redmond was named FootballScoop’s Director of Player Personnel in 2022.
One of the top people departments in the country is joining Auburn. Auburn has
hired Will Redmond as its General Manager of Player Personnel. Redmond
was named FootballScoop’s Director of Player Personnel of the Year in 2022.
As the Plains enter their second season, Hugh Freeze is trying to restructure both
on and off the field, and this news comes at that time. And behind the scenes, it’s a massive one.
Cooper Petagna of 247Sports, a former player personnel staffer himself, told
Auburn Undercover, “Redmond has quickly earned a reputation as one of the
most organized personnel minds in the game as he’s helped guide LSU to back-
to-back ten win seasons in Brian Kelly’s first two years.” “A person in his newly
created general manager role is now more crucial than ever to a college
football program’s success, not only in terms of attracting and keeping talent,
but also in terms of spearheading and managing a crucial division of the
program in relation to NIL initiatives. It pays to have forward-thinking
individuals off the field who can keep your program flexible when it comes to
adapting in this era of unprecedented player mobility.
Redmond, a native of Franklin, Tennessee, and a former Vol in college, held director positions in player
personnel and recruiting at Middle Tennessee State and Kansas. Redmond
began his Tennessee career as an intern in media relations before moving on to
become an analyst in the recruitment division.
Redmond became a member of the LSU faculty in 2021 and was among the few
employees who Brian Kelly kept on during the transition.
Redmond previously told FootballScoop, “As an evaluator and roster manager, the
challenge of rebuilding a locker room was truly exciting.” “Knowing going into
the movie that the players would need to be roster players with an instant effect,
we set the tone for the offseason. We were aware that we required
outstanding people in addition to outstanding athletes.
He received FootballScoop’s 2022 award in part because of his efforts to hasten
Kelly’s recovery and assist in rebuilding the Bayou Bengals roster.
Kelly told FootballScoop, “I’m delighted to see Will
recognized as the recipient of
this award. This is a tremendous honor for him.” “His talent detection skills and
general player assessment are essential to our program.
Will has demonstrated an ability to adjust to the always shifting landscape of
player evaluation and recruitment, whether it be in the identification of
young players or the assessment of players who might be in the transfer
portal. Best wishes to Will on this merited recognition.
