Adidas has announced a ‘ground-breaking partnership’ with Sela, as
Newcastle United’s future kit supplier and current front-of-shirt sponsor team up.
Newcastle not only announced a lucrative agreement with Saudi Arabian events company Sela last summer, but
also a massive deal with Adidas that could be worth hundreds of millions of pounds over the next five years.
Newcastle’s shirts will feature both Adidas and Sela logos starting next season.
Interestingly, before Newcastle’s partnership with Adidas is officially announced on June 24, Sela has ‘unveiled
a ground-breaking partnership focused on strategic collaborations and joint developments’ with the sportswear giant.
According to the press release, both companies see ‘tremendous potential for growth by leveraging their respective
strengths to co-create products and experiences that will resonate with consumers globally.’
Newcastle’s chief commercial officer, Peter Silverstone, previously described
the Magpies’ agreement with Sela as a ‘key gateway’ in a bid to become the most followed Premier League side in Saudi
Arabia, and Adidas will also help the club enter a global market. Adidas designs the Saudi national team kits, and Silverstone
saw ‘good synergy’ even before Sela partnered with Europe’s largest sportswear manufacturer.
Adidas will market to this 35 million young Saudi demographic,” Silverstone
said in the documentary ‘We Are United’. “As we grow our fanbase in Saudi, that will lead to more commercial revenues,
which, again, from a football perspective, it is money to be invested by Eddie [Howe] and Dan [Ashworth] in the team.”
