The Dallas Cowboys could hire Mike Vrabel, the former Tennessee Titans head coach, as their next defensive
coordinator. Dallas is looking for a new defensive coordinator after Dan Quinn left to join the Washington Commanders.
Vrabel sounds like an intriguing name, especially since he is not expected to land a head coaching position this year.
Many in the league are surprised that he and Bill Belichick are unlikely to be hired as head coaches this season.
However, there is still a chance Vrabel will come to Dallas and take over the
Cowboys defense. According to reports, Belichick will likely take some time off before finding his next head coaching
position. There were expectations that he would become the new Atlanta Falcons coach, but talks did not progress.
However, Vrabel may play it safe this season as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
This is likely to be Mike McCarthy’s final season as Cowboys head coach. Vrabel could play the long game and help the
Cowboys’ defense sneak his way into becoming the next head coach in 2025. This is just speculation that he could play,
but he could increase his value to the team even as a defensive coordinator. Vrabel, like Quinn, is simply looking to
get his name back out there, and the coordinator position is the ideal opportunity for him.
Many Tennessee Titans players are still surprised that the team has moved on
from Vrabel. While Dallas interviews Ron Rivera and Mike Zimmer, they could look into Vrabel if they are not interested.
Vrabel may be overqualified for the defensive coordinator position, but there are no open NFL head coaching jobs. The
former Titans coach has also won three Super Bowl championships with the New England Patriots. Because of his
experience as a linebacker, he is well-versed in defense. Vrabel was a former All-Pro and Pro Bowler.
This does not obscure the illustrious career he boasts on his coaching resume.
He led the Titans to four consecutive winning seasons before struggles dominated the last two. Vrabel helped
Tennessee win the 2019 AFC Championship. He was also named Coch of the Year after the Titans finished 12-5 in 2021.
Some argue that there is a downside to this hire. If McCarthy does not receive an
extension, he could emerge as the next head coach if he is named defensive coordinator in 2024. However, this
would not be a bad thing. If everything goes as planned, Vrabel could lead the Cowboys to their first NFC Championship
since 1995. Dallas has the right spices on its defense, and they may choose Vrabel as the next chef.
This assumes they’re not interested in Rivera or Zimmer, which appears unlikely. However, if Vrabel can bring
the same mentality that he had in 2021, the Cowboys could finally look like a different tea
Despite the fact that eight head coaching positions became available during the
2024 year cycle, Vrabel did not join a new team. A bizarre report surfaced claiming that Vrabel’s physical size
played a role in his failure to be hired as head coach. This couldn’t be true because there were so many top candidates this
year who went through rounds of team interviews. Regardless of why Vrabel is not hired, the Cowboys could keep him in mind.
