Arsenal feelings on Douglas Luiz signing clarifies

Ornstein clarifies Arsenal feelings on Douglas Luiz signing

Despite earlier rumors to the contrary, David Ornstein believes Arsenal won’t

attempt to acquire Douglas Luiz in January.

This week, in a Q&A on The Athletic, David Ornstein shared his opinions on

the issue surrounding Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa, amidst a plethora of contradicting reports.

Although Orstein notes that some Arsenal employees do have admiration

for Luiz, there doesn’t appear to be agreement on whether or not he’s the perfect player for the team.

The reporter goes on to claim that he doesn’t think Villa would attempt to sign

Luiz in January and that Arsenal has “no chance” of making a winter deal.

Although it won’t be an easy deal to complete, Fabrizio Romano recently

stated that Luiz was still the top choice for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu Gaspar.

Despite all of the recent reports that Aston Villa isn’t willing to sell, Romano

thinks Arsenal will still try to sign Luiz in 2024 and that he is their top transfer

target. Ornstein doesn’t seem to be so sure, though.

Unai Emery made it apparent in his remarks over the weekend that he wants to retain the Brazilian international.

“Douglas is playing very good and his commitment is amazing,” Emery said. “I want him here.

“I am very happy with him and I want to keep him, of course. I think he’s happy with us too.

John Percy of The Telegraph recently reported that Arsenal were expected to

advance their interest in Luiz in the January

transfer window, but Villa regard him as not for sale.

On the summer 2022 transfer deadline, Luiz chose to stay with Aston Villa rather

than sign with Arsenal, despite Arsenal’s unsuccessful attempts to sign him. He

now has a long-term contract and is well-paid.

It appears that Arsenal may not be as committed to signing Luiz as some had suggested, despite all the talk.
