Warrington Wolves are set for a major season of change with the arrival of Sam

Burgess as head coach and plenty off new recruits, however one of those new

signings is already attracting NRL interested despite not playing a game for the Wolves.

Rodrick Tai signed for the Wire at the end of August, whilst the season was still

ongoing, with the centre penning a one year deal and joining from Queensland Cup side Papua New Guinea Hunters.

Hunters are still a reserve grade team in Australia, however the 24-year-old was already a full international with PNG’s Kumuls.

With Sam Burgess taking over as head coach and a plethora of new players

joining, the Warrington Wolves are in for a significant season of change. However, even though one of those new additions

hasn’t played a game for the Wolves yet, he’s already garnering interest from the NRL.

Rodrick Tai, a center, signed a one-year contract with the Wire at the end of

August while the season was still in progress. He was coming from Queensland Cup team Papua New Guinea Hunters.

Since the Hunters are still an Australian reserve grade team, Tai’s move to

Warrington resulted in the signing of his first professional contract; however, the

24-year-old was already a full international with PNG’s Kumuls.

Clubs are becoming more interested in Tai because of his performances during the World Cup last year, where he played for the Kumuls.

 

According to NRL.com, the center’s strong performances in the Pacific Bowl games towards the end of the season have attracted the attention of NRL clubs.

 

Tai has generated the most interest for the Dolphins, the NRL’s newest team, who are now led by Wayne Bennett with assistant coach Kristian Woolf.

Prior to the 2023 season, Tai worked with the Dolphins during the preseason, but he didn’t make the squad. Instead, he returned to the Hunters, where he scored 14 tries in 34 games.

 

The center scored two tries in his four World Cup games last year, including a brace against the Cook Islands. Despite this, he was able to show off his explosive playmaking as he averaged 129 meters per game.

I got a call from Sam Burgess, who said there was a chance. For me, even his calling was significant! I’m excited to put in my best effort during the preseason, work hard, and contribute the following year.

 

We stayed in Warrington during the World Cup with PNG, so I will recognize some places. My family and I had a great time, and we can’t wait to visit the town again as Kumuls.

 

Although Tai signed a one-year contract with the Wire, a move could still be in the works in 2025 if he performs well during his time there. The Dolphins have already added players like Herbie Farnworth, an England star, to their centers this off-season.
