Lions safety Sam LaPorta is expected to be “good player for long time,” according to Saints All-Pro defenceman.

This season, there has been a recurring pattern of high praise for rookie tight

end Sam LaPorta of the Detroit Lions. The main reason for this praise is the maturity and poise he has shown as an

important member of the Lions offense. And that pattern held true during the

victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, after a productive day for the 2023 second-round selection.

With nine receptions for 140 yards and one touchdown, LaPorta was possibly the

best player for Detroit during the Lions’ 33-28 victory over the Saints. His only touchdown came from a 13-yard

reception by Jared Goff, which helped the Lions take a 14-0 lead after Brian Branch, another second-round rookie, intercepted him.

With 2:53 left in the second quarter, LaPorta made another noteworthy catch. This time, it was 48-yard pass, and it set up the Lions for field goal at the end of the third quarter to extend their lead. Tyrann Mathieu of New Orleans was undoubtedly aware of LaPorta’s excellent play, as were both his teammates and coaches. The All-Pro safety and former Super Bowl champion had nothing but praise for LaPorta and his performance on Sunday after their loss to the Lions.

He’s going to be talented player, think. After the game, Mathieu told reporters, “I told him that.” The type of routes he runs, his frame, his length—just crafty for rookie, man—and of course, anytime you and the quarterback are in sync, they’re going to pull off some plays. He made two of the game’s most crucial plays, in my opinion.

There were a few third downs as a result. He didn’t make a first down; instead, he just put the ball on his body when we had everyone covered. We therefore only need to get better at our backend work so that we can push the guys and understand their expectations and route tree. Nevertheless, dude,
