“Let’s see,” says Tony Mowbray’s ex-teammate as he slammed Sunderland after his dismissal.

Sunderland slammed by Tony Mowbray’s former teammate following sacking

After deciding to fire Tony Mowbray, Sunderland came under fire.

Bernie Slaven, the 60-year-old’s former teammate, stated on X that the firing was a grave error.

Days after the Black Cats had taken a point from Millwall, Sunderland declared late last night that they had split from Tony Mowbray.

His departure occurs fifteen months after he was named manager, and the

team is currently ninth in the Championship following a run of just two victories in their last nine games.

Despite Sunderland’s recent struggles, Mowbray had won us over as a Wearside favorite with his outstanding work with

a very young team, leading us to the play-offs the previous season.

After consecutive losses to Plymouth and Huddersfield Town, there had been many calls for Mowbray’s dismissal. Sunderland didn’t waste any time in firing him in advance of their match against West Brom on Saturday.

Now that Mowbray has had such a successful first season in the Championship, his former teammate has jumped to his defense and criticized the decision to fire him.

“Keep smiling Mogga, it won’t be long till you’re back in a job,” Slaven wrote on his X profile. I guess it’s considered a failure for Sunderland to make the playoffs the previous season and finish three points outside of the top six. Watch how they manage without you. Fire the individuals in charge of signing players and releasing them.

Was Tony Mowbray’s sacking premature?

Although many people thought he had taken us as far as he could, it makes

sense that others felt his dismissal was premature.

While the Black Cats are undoubtedly having a rough season right now, Tony Mowbray’s outstanding contributions to

this team make his departure all the more difficult to accept.

Without a doubt, the players and supporters adored him, but if we had

stuck with him, Sunderland might have found itself in the bottom half by the start of the new year.

Maybe it was too much of a risk to keep him, even though it wouldn’t be the end of the world if we didn’t make the playoffs. If we don’t even make the playoffs, some important players might leave.

Nonetheless, he has the utmost gratitude from all Sunderland supporters for his actions on Wearside, and hopefully he will return to work soon.

Though it wouldn’t be the end of the world if we missed the playoffs—if we don’t even make it, some key players might leave—perhaps it was too risky to keep him on board. Nevertheless, all Sunderland supporters are extremely grateful to him for his actions on Wearside, and hopefully he will be back to work soon.
