Major injury boast: star player will practice with the Giants prior to Week 14 after being designated to return from injury

Tyrod Taylor designated to return from injured reserve, will practice with Giants ahead of Week 14

Quarterback Tyrod Taylor of the New York Giants is getting closer to making a

comeback. Taylor’s return from injured reserve was officially announced by the

team on Monday, along with his practice schedule.

Following a rib injury he suffered against the New York Jets in Week 8, Taylor has missed the last four games for the team.

When Taylor was out, Daniel Jones was supposed to take over as the starting

quarterback, but in Week 9, Jones suffered a season-ending injury.

Tommy DeVito, a rookie, entered the starting lineup as a result of those injuries. For the Giants, DeVito has

started the last three games. During that time, he has thrown six touchdown

passes against just one interception, helping the team to a 2-1 record.

Taylor can now start practicing in advance of the team’s Week 14 matchup with the Green Bay Packers thanks to

this move. Taylor was not required to go back to practice right away. After their

practice window opens, players can return for a 21-day period without

deducting from the team’s 53-man roster. The Giants will have to decide whether

to activate Taylor or put him on injured reserve at the end of the season once that

21-day window closes. Taylor’s readiness to resume practice suggests that he will

likely make it back to the 53-man roster in the upcoming days.

The Giants will have to decide whether to start Taylor over DeVito if he keeps

improving. With their record of 4-8, the Giants don’t have much left to win and

may decide to watch DeVito’s progress in the final regular season games.

In 2023, Taylor made seven appearances for the Giants, including three starts. In

those games, he has thrown for two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Prior to suffering a rib injury, Taylor started for the team and went 1-2.
