Ferguson acknowledges that he was mistaken about the wealthy Rangers star, saying, “Now, it’s a whole other story.”

Rangers: Barry Ferguson admits he was wrong about Ibrox ace Abdallah Sima

Since joining Rangers in the summer, Barry Ferguson has been impressed by

Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Abdallah Sima, though he acknowledges that he

wasn’t initially convinced by the young talent.

The 22-year-old has finally settled in after stints on loan at Slavia Prague,

Stoke City, and Angers. In 26 appearances

across all competitions, he has scored 12 goals.

Ferguson has completely changed his mind about his initial disapproval of the

Gers’ loan move and is now likening the young player to a former Rangers player.

In his Daily Record column on Friday,

December 8, he wrote, “Hands up, I must admit, I wasn’t convinced with Sima at

the start of the season when he first came in on loan from Brighton.”

“He appeared to be a player lacking self-assurance and finding it difficult to

accept the responsibilities of being a

Rangers player.” But now, things are very different.

“I would even say that he reminds me of Peter Lovenkrands, who was a winger when he first joined the team but

developed into a key player for us when he was used as a center player.

Lovenkrands, like Sima, had a lightning-fast pace that alarmed opponents.

Amazing talent, at least for now

During his six-year tenure at the club, Lovenkrands scored 54 goals, making

him a serious threat in the goal. For a 22-year-old loanee, it should be an honor to be compared to him.

Because of Sima’s skill, numerous reporters and commentators have urged

Rangers to find a way to keep the Brighton loanee at Ibrox. However, the

winger’s loan deal is only valid through the end of the current campaign.

The player, who is currently Rangers’ top scorer this season and has scored in both

the Scottish Premiership and Europe, has been an immediate success.

With his performances since the summer, it will be very tough to

convince his parent club to let him go permanently. But there’s no question that

Rangers must seize the chance to get his signature if it presents itself.

The last forward to score more than 20

goals in a season was Alfredo Morelos during the 2019–20 campaign, meaning

the Gers have been devoid of a star striker for a number of seasons. Since

then, right-back James Tavernier has been

primarily responsible for scoring

goals; the defender has been trusted with penalties and free kicks.

A solution must be found to end the ongoing strike issue at Ibrox. Sima may

be the answer with Philippe Clement utilizing the forward as much as

possible, whether it be up front or on the wing.
