Zerbi’s stock is currently at an all-time high. Suddenly, the Italian manager is

one of the most talked-about figures in the industry.

With his tactical prowess, De Zerbi has made the Seagulls into one of the

Premier League’s most organized and productive teams. In a recent interview

for Brescia Today in his native country, he was questioned extensively about it.

Even though he still sees evolutions, he fundamentally asserts that Serie A is a

more tactical league than the English premier league. De Zerbi went so far as

to provide an example: goalkeepers are becoming increasingly important.

According to Sport Italia, he said, “Today [the goalkeeper] is becoming a more

involved player on the field in the buildup.” “Let’s use my Brighton’s two

games this year against Manchester City and Liverpool as an example.

“I was ready for the man-on-man defensive phase in both situations. But [Pep] Guardiola and [Jurgen] Klopp

placed the goalie far higher than the penalty area, making him an outfield

player and making things difficult for me.”

Alisson and Ederson of Manchester City are the epitome of the sophisticated, contemporary goalie. He’s more than

willing to participate in buildup, which, as De Zerbi notes, puts a free man in

opposition to man-to-man marking schemes.

It’s just amazing that the Brazilian can provide that in addition to leading the Premier League’s save % charts. Alisson

of Liverpool is regarded by many as the best goalkeeper in the world.

Right now, he’s practically unreplaceable. Goalies are expected to do more and more tasks, so teams are compelled to

accept compromises in this role. While he may not be the greatest shot-blocker

in the world, he excels at the other position with his feet.

Liverpool have somehow ended up with the most well-rounded goalkeeper on the

planet. There’s not really anyone like Alisson, tactically or individually.
