Breaking news:The club board irritated following their head coach discussions with Sunderland to become their new manager
|REIMS’ BOARD IRRITATED FOLLOWING WILL STILL’S DISCUSSIONS WITH SUNDERLAND TO BECOME THEIR NEW MANAGER
Journalist Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport claims that after Will Still’s talks with Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus about taking over as manager of the Stadium of Light, the board of Stade de Reims is not at all happy with him. Regarding taking over for Tony Mowbray, the Black Cats’ owner and the Belgian coach have had fruitful discussions.
The 31-year-old is reportedly drawn to the idea of leading the Championship team, according to L’Équipe. The board
and Champagne club supporters have not been pleased with Sunderland’s
conversations with the former Beerschot manager. Reims are not happy with Will
Still because, according to Fabrice Hawkins, it was he who approached
Sunderland via his agent Alex Hayes. The coach of Reims defended himself in front
of the board, saying he has no desire to be a coach in Northern England.
A potential departure in the summer?
According to Hawkins, Reims anticipate losing their coach in the summer of 2024 because of the ongoing demand for his
skills both in France and elsewhere. In his contract, which was extended in June
2022, the Belgian manager also stipulated that he may leave the Stade
Auguste Delaune in 2024 if he were to receive an offer.
Even though Will has denied that he want to join Sunderland, it appears likely
that he will leave Reims in 2024. Under the 31-year-old, Reims have been playing
at a good level in Ligue 1, sitting in eighth place and only two points outside
of the Europa Conference League qualification slots.
