Season ticket holders for Sunderland will be moved due to Newcastle United’s FA Cup allocation

For the FA Cup third round, Sunderland season ticket holders will not be seated in their usual seats as the club has

confirmed that parts of the North Stand Upper and Lower will be occupied by Newcastle United’s designated away end.

The allocation given to the Magpies for the January 7 Tyne-Wear derby is 6,000,

which falls short of the 15% capacity that the FA has mandated for the Stadium of Light.

As a result, supporters with a season ticket in the North Stand Lower will now have to find another seat, and away fans

will be seated in the Stadium of Light’s lower concourse for the first time since

they were permanently relocated from the South Stand to the North Stand Upper in 2012.

“After extensive discussions with Northumbria Police, Newcastle United, the Safety Advisory Groups for

Sunderland and Newcastle, and others, it has been decided that NUFC will be allotted 6,000 tickets.

The North Stand Upper and North Stand Lower will thereafter be home to away

supporters. We understand that this stadium arrangement may result in the relocation of some season ticket holders.

In the event that a replay at St. James’ Park is necessary, there is an agreement in place with NUFC to duplicate a 6,000-ticket away allocation, and all parties are preparing for this eventuality after consulting with the Newcastle Safety Advisory Group and Northumbria Police.”
