Brighton & Hove Albion: Fans react as Seagulls top Europa League group

Fans of Brighton & Hove Albion have expressed their “delight” following their team’s victory over Marseille, who topped their Europa League group.

 

Thanks to a goal late in the game from João Pedro, the Seagulls won 1-0.

 

They will not participate in the play-off stage and will play their next match in March in the round of 16.

 

Fans are daring to dream of where their European voyage might take them after Thursday’s “brilliant” victory.

Mother and daughter Brighton supporters Sarah and Maryan said they “love going to games” and that it was “brilliant” that they could spend the occasion together.

They said the atmosphere inside the Amex stadium was “rocking” and said they “won’t be sleeping tonight”.

 

Fellow Seagulls supporters Fiona and Simon said the result was “never in doubt”.

 

“We played really, really well and you have to always believe.”

Hamburg, Germany-based supporters Sunny and Steve declared themselves

“lost for words and couldn’t explain how happy they were” following the victory on Thursday night.

 

“But now we can’t play Shakhtar Donetsk, which is annoying because of how close it is” the two laughed.

 

Paul, a different Brighton supporter, commented, “This is incredible—history is being made.

 

“It was electric when that ball went in – it was the best feeling ever.”

 

A few French Brighton fans made the trip to Newhaven via ferry across the English Channel to see the match.

 

They declared that Brighton’s ability to be a modest club with impressive

performances has made them fall in love with the city.

This win means Brighton can skip the next round and potentially avoid a tricky draw earlier on in the competition.

 

The draw will take place on Monday with the round of 16 matches due to take place in the week commencing 4 March.

 

Brighton’s next league game is on Sunday, away to Arsenal.
