Roberto De Zerbi makes Scottish player transfer plea to Brighton after Billy Gilmour ‘near crying’ revelation

Roberto De Zerbi says he would like more Scottish players like the “incredible” Billy Gilmour at Brighton.
Albion defeated Marseille 1-0 on Thursday to advance to the Europa League round of 16 as group winners thanks to a man-of-the-match performance from the midfielder.
At the Amex, the Scottish international was almost faultless, something Seagulls head coach De Zerbi relished.
The 44-year-old even expressed his desire to enlist more of the 22-year-old’s countrymen to join the Sussex team.
“Absolutely amazing performance. Amazing athlete, he is rising to the very top. Since he’s Scottish, I’d want to see more Scottish players,” the Italian stated.
Following the game, Steve Sidwell, a former Brighton player, revealed on TNT Sports that Gilmour had been “near enough crying” during the preseason because De Zerbi was essentially on his tail, pressuring him for more.
Despite his ups and downs, the former Chelsea midfielder is enjoying his stay on the south coast.
“After the preseason, he was very critical of me and demanded a lot from me. He had high expectations for me to pass the ball quickly and with less touches. He was right there with me,” he stated.
“I had good days and terrible days, of course, but I understood going in that I needed to put in a lot of training. And he’s telling me, “Well done, well done,” now that he’s noticed me more. Working with him has been incredible.”
