Latest:Burnley vs. Everton – prediction, team news, lineups

In pursuit of a fourth straight Premier League triumph, Everton will visit

Burnley, another team vying for relegation, on Saturday night in

Lancashire. Turf Moor will welcome back Sean Dyche for a homecoming.

The Toffees continued their winning streak last time out, defeating Chelsea 2-0, while Vincent Kompany’s team

managed a respectable point in a 1-1 draw away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Burnley put another dent in Brighton’s European hopes last weekend, escaping de

feat for just the fourth time in the current Premier League season and taking home share of the spoils, in large part due to an outstanding performance from James Trafford in goal. After 90 minutes of incompetence kept Brighton from turning one-point lead into three, Wilson Odobert broke the deadlock just before halftime, and Simon Adingra scored from Pascal Gross’s header to give Brighton point again.

But Trafford more than fulfilled his role, making an incredible ten saves, one of

which was an incredible acrobatic stop to prevent Kaoru Mitoma from winning

in injury time. After stopping the Seagulls cold, Kompany naturally waxed poetic about his number one.

It remains to be seen whether that point at the Amex will prove to be invaluable, but as of right now, the 19th-placed Clarets are five points outside of safety

and are only off the bottom of the table due to goal differential after Sheffield United defeated Brentford in gameweek 16.

Following a humiliating and historic seven-game losing streak at Turf Moor,

which was ended two weeks ago with a 5-0 crushing of Sheffield United. For the first time since April 2022, Burnley could

now win two straight top-flight home games, and it wouldn’t hurt to borrow a defensive strategy from Everton.

Despite happily giving up 72% of the ball to Chelsea in the match at Goodison Park

last weekend, Everton was able to quell the Blues’ pointless attacks and win their third straight Premier League game in

front of their home fans thanks to two goals in the second half.

Everton continued to play like they were in a winter wonderland with goals from

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin. They had already defeated Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United without

giving up a goal since the beginning of December, so they would finish this weekend’s play in a secure position

No matter what happens in gameweek 17, the 17th-place Toffees will still be

above the dotted line because they are four points ahead of 18th-place Luton Town. Dyche may lead the visitors to

four straight Premier League victories for the first time since December 2020, when Carlo Ancelotti was in charge.

Since the start of the 2023–24 season, Everton has only lost away from home against Aston Villa and fierce rivals

Liverpool. The last time the Toffees won four Premier League games without giving up a goal was in November 2002.

Everton, who is currently enjoying a three-game winning streak of their own, travels to Burnley one and a half months after defeating the Clarets 3-0 in the EFL Cup. However, the Toffees have only triumphed once in their last six meetings at Turf Moor, losing 5-1 on Boxing Day 2018.
