This is somewhat of a setback for the 49ers in San Francisco.

They won’t be playing at full strength when they take on the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. When the 49ers play the Cardinals, two important defensive line starters will be out of the lineup.

Due to a foot and knee injuries, Arik Armstead, who was absent from the previous game against the Seahawks, is not expected to play. He will be joined by Javon Hargrave in being sidelined for this game due to a pulled hamstring. The fact that neither of these players is participating in this game should not be shocking.

They have both skipped practice this week, but their absence on Thursday made it particularly clear that they are both absent. Armstead’s condition worsened when his injuries surfaced during the Eagles game, when he probably chose to play through them. Fortunately, though, he and Hargrave don’t seem to have anything important.

It makes sense that the 49ers are being cautious.When the postseason run becomes serious, they will need both of them. It would be foolish to put them at risk in this game, especially given they are up against the Cardinals. Without Armstead and Hargrave, it shouldn’t be that much harder to defend against.

Additionally, with Kalia Davis and Javon Kinlaw stepping up and providing the 49ers with some crucial snaps, the defensive line depth is plenty. Without these two important starters, the 49ers should be able to handle the Cardinals.
