‘Irritated’ Thomas Frank makes ‘class’ comment after ill-tempered Aston Villa clash

The latest Aston Villa news as tempers boiled over in the final few minutes of the 2-1 win at the GTech Community Stadium.

At the Gtech Community Stadium, Aston Villa’s matchup with Brentford was chaotic in the second half as Unai Emery’s team pulled off a thrilling victory.

Keane Lewis-Potter’s goal shortly before the half ended put Villa behind 1-0, but

in the final 13 minutes, goals from Alex Moreno and Ollie Watkins gave Villa

their third straight Premier League victory. This victory moved them up to

second place ahead of Liverpool’s match against Manchester United. Villa scored

two goals after Ben Mee was sent off in the 71st minute.

In the seventh minute of the ten minutes that were tacked on, Boubacar Kamara was also sent off, setting up additional

drama during stoppage time. Villa players were jeered as they left the field

by the home crowd, and before making his way through the tunnel, Thomas

Frank spoke with his former striker Watkins.

Frank expressed his dissatisfaction with three referee decisions that he felt went

against his team after the game to BBC Sport. “I’m a big believer that if you want

to improve you have to learn from mistakes, I still massively believe in that,

it’s just sometimes a little bit tough to take when you are hard done by in three

crucial situations in the game,” Frank said.

“In my opinion, David (the referee) didn’t receive enough assistance from the VAR room today, even if I am aware that he

does. Although I’m not a referee, I believe Ben Mee should receive a clear

penalty based on the regulations we’ve been advised to review. The red card Ben

Mee received, in my opinion, is not a red card.

Looking back, the game seems a little bit different. Back then, a yellow card would have solved any issue. However, even

now, we only received a yellow last week, which was a red card. I have been

discussing this red card scenario when it appears to be anything other than a red,

so in my opinion it is a clear yellow and not a red. However, I believe that Neal

Maupay’s penalty, which was the game’s pivotal moment, was the worst error.

“I believe that the reason they are unable to see the penalty on the field and with

the VAR is that it’s probably 2-0 and game over.

“I didn’t enjoy every incident in the end; that wasn’t how the game was meant to be played. Showing as much class as possible is something I think is really essential, but it’s hard, and I don’t always do it, and when I do, I’m always frustrated with myself. However, I believe that there are far too many instances in which things aren’t right.

He continued by saying that the situations where anger erupted at the end of the game didn’t sit well with him.”I must admit, I didn’t like it, but it’s heated, there’s emotion, and we want to win,” he remarked.

“Unfortunately, it was all of the situations that will take the headlines. It should have been football, the beautiful game in a physical contest between two good teams, but then there should be a winner at the end.”
