Leeds’ underappreciated star is surprisingly essential; without him, they cannot win.

Sam Byram absence is felt deeply as alarming Leeds United statistics surface.

When Sam Byram’s return to Leeds United this summer was confirmed, there wasn’t a lot of fanfare.

Don’t get me wrong, given his versatility and ability to cover both full-backs, it

seemed like a very sensible move to bring him back to Elland Road.

However, Byram proved to be more than just a solid cover signing; in fact, since Daniel Farke, who had previously

worked with Byram at Norwich City, decided to bring him back together, Byram has been fantastic for Leeds.

Before missing the games against Sunderland (12 December) and Coventry City (16 December) due to a hamstring

injury suffered in the 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers (9 December), the left-back position had become his own.

Leeds could only muster a 1-1 draw at Elland Road in the second of those

matches after losing the first 1-0 at the Stadium of Light.

It emphasized the significance of Byram’s performance and how he has occasionally gone unnoticed, continuing a worrying trend this season.

“Leeds United are still yet to win a Championship game this season without Sam Byram in the starting XI (6 games without him: 5 draws, 1 defeat),” wrote Opta stats expert Jonny Cooper on X.

“In 12 of his 16 games starting for Leeds, the team has won.”

Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter are two players that have garnered special recognition for a Leeds team that is vying for automatic promotion this season.

However, that statistic actually emphasizes how crucial Byram has been—it demonstrates that they haven’t been able to win this season without him.

Byram’s exact return date is currently unknown, but since hamstring strains

can be quite problematic, they will want to make sure he heals completely.

However, it is also very evident that Leeds would benefit from having him return as soon as possible.
