Coventry City star makes ‘more erratic’ Leeds United comment after Championship clash

Latest Coventry City news as Bobby Thomas talks about the more ‘erratic’ game against Leeds United in the Championship

The Sky Blues’ match against Leeds, according to Coventry City defender Bobby Thomas, was “more erratic” than their draw with Southampton.

There were many similarities between the two games, which ended in a 1-1

draw for Mark Robins’ team, but Thomas has also pointed out some distinctions.

With six victories, nine draws, and seven losses, Coventry is now ranked 15th in

the Championship standings following the back-to-back draws.

Thomas told ccfc.co.uk following the game, “A hard-fought point at a good place against a good team.” Southampton

and Leeds seem to be comparable to each other in the last two games.

“The Leeds game today was a bit more erratic, and the Southampton game was, in my opinion, a little bit more controlled. They were patient, but not as patient as Southampton, and they stretched us quite a bit, but that also, I think, worked in our favor quite a bit because we had opportunities to win the game at times.”

Leeds put up a lot of pressure up front, but Coventry’s strategy allowed them to see off any threat. “Yes, Rutter, Summerville, and Piroe were the majority of the players; they were all getting into tight spots where we would try to get Joel and Sheafo to try and put the fire out and give us some cover,” Thomas continued. “But I thought the game plan was really good, worked well.”

“In the opening 20 minutes of the second half, or perhaps the first 15, they had a strong stretch of continuous possession

during which they scored the goal. They had so many opportunities to break us

that it was almost inevitable how far gone we were. They changed slightly

after the goal, you know, when you were down to zero and had little left to lose. In

the end, we found ourselves in a different scenario where we responded

quickly, altered the course of the game, and scored a wonderful goal.”

Thomas scored the equalising goal in the 66th minute to earn Coventry the point. Looking back on the goal, he said: “I went on the run didn’t I, Adi was saying we were seeing who could carry the ball further, but it managed to lead to a good goal and find the side of the goal. It was just nice to score. I haven’t scored all season, so it was nice to get that weight off my shoulders and try and get a few more now.

“It’s just what the game presents sometimes, sometimes you see it sometimes you don’t, and you’ve got to

recognise it and recognise that the right spot and Tats has put a wonderful ball in

the and it was easy for me to attack and got in front in of the centre half or

whatever it was and see the ball go in the back of net. It was nice to give the fans

something to cheer about from the good support they bring.

“It’s always nice to score I got a few last year and it’s took me 20 games to get my first, longer than I’d have liked but it’s nice to get the first, hopefully takes the pressure off and just go attack a bit more now try and get a few more similar to last season.”
