The director of football reveals why he signed a player from Southampton instead of Tottenham.

Director of football explains why he dropped Tottenham transfer, and signed Southampton man instead

Director of football of PSV Eindhoven Marcel Brands disclosed that he signed

Southampton’s Armel Bella-Kotchap in place of Davinson Sánchez, who was to be signed by Tottenham.

Voetbal International has been in conversation with the director of football

over the job that the Eredivisie completed during the summer transfer window.

PSV made a something of a rebuilding move in the summer, adding 12 players,

including Ricardo Pepi, Noa Lang, Jerdy Schouten, and Hirvin Lozano.

One of those who came on loan from Southampton was Armel Bella-Kotchap, who signed on the penultimate day of the summer transfer window after his last-minute attempt to return to Germany failed.

Since then, he hasn’t been able to have much of an impact; he has only made three appearances in the Eredivisie and has only played in 13% of the league’s total minutes.

For all parties concerned, especially Bella-Kotchap, who had planned to be playing frequently with PSV in the Eredivisie and Europe this season but has so far lost out on both, it’s been a terrible situation.

Additionally, things might have ended out quite differently because Brands disclosed that before he turned his attention to a defender at Tottenham, instead turning his focus to the young Southamptonian.

Regarding the former Tottenham player, he stated, “Sánchez was the only one with whom we got the feeling that he did not really want to go.”

Regarding compensation, it seems doable, but every other player we spoke with promptly informed their previous club of their intention to join PSV.

“They deliberated over how to make the deal happen, like removing some conditions,” Brands added. With Sánchez, things were not the same. We decided not to proceed with that and to lend Armel Bella-Kotchap for that reason.
