C.J. Gardner-Johnson, a safety for the Detroit Lions, is one of the team’s most assured players right now.

After missing three months to recover from a torn pectoral muscle, Detroit’s

vocal defensive back returned and wished the team a happy birthday, asked

if the team had lost its confidence, and boldly stated the team was a playoff contender.

Surprisingly, Gardner-Johnson survived the Week 2 matchup against the Seahawks despite sustaining a serious injury.

It’s an educational experience and one of those moments. Gardner-Johnson stated,

“You come to know who you are. “You accept humility. This team is great both

with and without me, as I told myself, and I’m just happy to be a part of something that’s still growing.

John Cominsky, a defensive lineman, suggested the team might have lost its swagger after struggling to give up points

and failing to apply consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks for a few games.

“John Cominsky said that for a few games, we lost our confidence. We still have a lot of swagger, man. We have a young team right now,” Gardner-Johnson told the press.

Gardner-Johnson told reporters what he wanted for his first birthday while practicing for the first time since getting hurt on his birthday.

“My biggest wish is for us to make the Detroit community happy, go to the playoffs, and win our first playoff game

in lord knows how many years,” the 26-year-old said. My first birthday wish is that.”
