Auburn continues strong kicker tradition with addition of All-American Towns McGough

McGough is from Auburn High and just recently transitioned from soccer to football.

Auburn has become KickerU, going all the way back to Cody Parkey more than ten years ago. Towns McGough, the third-ranked kicker in the country according to Kohl’s Kicking Camp rankings, has signed with Auburn, so it appears that this trend will continue.

McGough, of Auburn High (Ala.), was also seriously thinking about Ole Miss. McGough was added to the Tigers as a preferred walk-on, and it is anticipated that he would earn a NIL deal to make up for not being on scholarship. The Rebels had offered McGough the opportunity to join on scholarship.

“You get to coach him once in a lifetime; he’s a special kid.” He’s a wonderful young man. Keith Etheredge, the head coach at Auburn High, told Auburn Undercover, “He’s a 4.0 kid.” “In the classroom, he is fantastic. I have never seen a kicker as normal as he is.His leg is amazing. The child is going to kick on Sundays, since he has only been doing it for the past two years. If he continues to be healthy, he will smash NFL records.

McGough, who played soccer as a child, just recently switched to kicking footballs rather than soccer balls. He is currently in his second year of football. McGough was selected for the Under Armour All-American Game and was a MaxPreps All-American as a senior. He participated in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic as well, but during practice he hurt his kicking leg, forcing him to use his non-dominant foot during warmups and the actual game.

McGough made 19 of his 22 field goals as a senior and did not miss any of them inside 56 yards. He was successful on two kicks from 50 yards out, as well as kicks from 52, 55, 56, and 60 yards out. McGough’s kickoff average was 73 yards.

In 2024, Alex McPherson will begin his redshirt sophomore season, but he may choose to enter the NFL Draft later that year. The last three kickers from Auburn to enter the NFL are Anders Carlson, Daniel Carlson, and Parkey.

Tanner Burns, the special teams coordinator, will be hoping that McPherson and McGough carry on that trend.
