Transfer news update: Aston villa has tabled a £10m for Bright striker that could bench Watkins

£10m potential fee emerges as Aston Villa eye Leicester City star

The Premier League side are reportedly keen to add Kelechi Iheanacho to their ranks next month.

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Aston Villa are confident they can sign Kelechi Iheanacho from Leicester for a bargain fee of £5-10 million in January.
  •  Iheanacho’s contract talks with Leicester have stalled, making him an attractive target for Villa.
  •  Iheanacho has been an unused substitute for Leicester in their last two Championship matches.

Aston Villa is optimistic that they can get Kelechi Iheanacho, a forward for Leicester City, to leave the King Power Stadium in January for a very low price.

The Villains think the Nigerian forward may be signed for as little as £5–10 million pounds, according to Football Insider.

The 27-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, and the report indicates that negotiations over a new agreement have not progressed between the Foxes and Iheanacho.

This would account for the low cost, which is undoubtedly perceived as such considering that Leicester reportedly

paid Manchester City £25 million to get Iheanacho in 2017.

Aston Villa eyeing Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho

Prior to the January transfer window, there had been ties between the player

and Aston Villa. This report follows those ties.

On December 20, Football Insider made the initial claim that the Villains were

interested. The report stated that the team had their sights set on both the 27-

year-old and Timo Werner, a former Chelsea player who plays for RB Leipzig.

As per their report, Aston Villa are making it a priority of theirs to bring in a new striker in January, with Unai Emery keen to add attacking depth and a deputy for Ollie Watkins.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s 2023/24 stats

Given his current contract situation at the club, Leicester City will surely be anticipating interest in Iheanacho ahead of January.

This, however, does not mean that losing him would be any less of a blow.

Although in and out of the side this season, the 27-year-old showed how valuable he can be on a run in late September through to late October, when he scored five goals in six appearances for the club, three of which were from the bench.

Iheanacho has been unutilized as a substitute in Leicester City’s last two games, as the Foxes defeated Rotherham and Birmingham City, respectively. This is concerning for Iheanacho.
This indicates that Iheanacho has participated in 18 Championship games thus far, scoring five goals and providing one assist in those contests.

Despite that, though, given the quality Iheanacho has, it would be very hard for Leicester to replace him with an equally talented forward in the Championship.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s Premier League record

Of course, moving to Villa would see Iheanacho step back up to the Premier League, where his record is respectable.

Iheanacho, for instance, has made 196 appearances in the English top division for Manchester City and Leicester, and he has contributed 70 direct goals to those games.

When broken down, those 70 points indicate that Iheanacho has 28 Premier League assists and 42 Premier League goals.
