Breaking: Atlanta Braves( Fr )star has announced his retirement.

Andrelton Simmons (SS) of the Atlanta Braves announced his retirement

The defensive mastermind Andrelton Simmons, who was a member of the

Atlanta Braves from 2012 to 2015, has announced his retirement from baseball. He had been selected in October by

Baseball United’s Mumbai Cobras and had played in the team’s first-ever All-Star game.

Simmons was selected by the Braves in the second round of the 2010 draft. He replaced Tyler Pastornicky as the starting shortstop on May 30, 2012.

Due to a broken hand, Simmons was only able to play in 49 games for the Braves in 2012; however, his performance in the

field and his unexpectedly high batting average cemented his spot as the starting pitcher moving forward.

Despite not hitting as well as his rookie season in 2013, he still won the Platinum Glove Award and his first Gold Glove for his outstanding defense.

The defensive wizard inked a seven-year, $58 million contract extension at the

start of 2014. Even though it appeared that Simmons would stay a Braves shortstop for many years to come, the

team decided to trade him after the 2015 season for cash, Erick Aybar, Chris Ellis, and Sean Newcomb.

With a.256/.304/.362 slash (85 OPS+), an incredible 98 defensive runs saved, and two Gold Glove Awards, Simmons concluded his Braves career.

During his five seasons with the Angels, Simmons hit.281/.328/.394 (96 OPS+) with

a little bit more success at bat. He was still a fantastic glover, winning two more Gold Gloves.

Simba finished eighth and fifteenth in the MVP voting in 2017 and 2018, respectively, after two seasons of above-

average hitting. He was never selected for an All-Star Game for the Braves or the Angels, despite his success.

The last two years of Simmons’ career were split between the Chicago Cubs and the Minnesota Twins. His batting average

fell by 48%, and his output with the bat fell precipitously. He still finished his last two seasons with an amazing 19 OAA.

After being cut by the Cubs in August 2022, the SS remained unsigned. Although the Mumbai Cobras selected

him eighth overall in Baseball United’s first draft, it doesn’t seem like he will play for the team.

We salute Andrelton for a remarkable career! Before you leave, enjoy one more
