Tommy DeVito has classy response to being benched

For the time being at least, Tommy DeVito’s brief stint as the starting quarterback for the New York Giants is over, but he is taking it very well.

The Giants declared on Wednesday that Tyrod Taylor will start in place of DeVito in Week 17. DeVito responded with remarkable composure despite acknowledging that he was shocked and dismayed by the choice.

Yes, keep up the fantastic work as a teammate. It is, of course, a coaching decision. According to Jordan Ranaan of ESPN, DeVito stated, “I obviously have no say in that.” But I’m still going to go out and compete and be a good teammate. That is all.

“As I have stated from the start, maintain your composure at all times. As I mentioned earlier, while you’re up, everyone adores you, therefore you should never be too high or too down. When you’re depressed, everyone despises you. Therefore, in my opinion, stay through it all.

DeVito deserves praise for addressing the matter with maturity. In the second half of Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Taylor just moved the ball better. It’s not that he had played poorly or made obvious mistakes versus the Giants.

DeVito’s He may not be starting for the time being, but in his seven weeks at the top of the depth chart, he left a lasting impression.
