Chelsea considering January move for Matty Cash

Chelsea might reportedly look to sign 26-year-old Polish international Matty Cash from Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

Chelsea is reportedly interested in Matty Cash, according to a report from 90min. The Blues are looking to add a right-back before the January transfer window opens. Additionally, they have their sights set on the 26-year-old defender for Aston Villa.

Matty Cash: who is he?

Matty Cash spent his early years out of the spotlight and came from modest circumstances. Originating from Slough,

he progressed through the youth ranks of Nottingham Forest, Wycombe

Wanderers, and FAB Academy before earning his diploma. However, since

joining Aston Villa in September 2020, he has become more well-known.

For the previous three years, the 26-year-old has been a consistent player for Aston Villa. However, he has been in and

out of the Midlands team this season, starting 19 of the 28 games that the team

has played. Cash’s reputation in the market hasn’t diminished, either, as

Chelsea is interested in taking him away from Aston Villa.

Is It Chelsea Calling?

After agreeing to sign Malo Gusto in January, Chelsea welcomed his arrival during the summer transfer window. However, in his debut season with the West London club, the young Frenchman has struggled with poor form and physical concerns. Furthermore, Reece James’s injury problems are not likely to get better very soon.

James took over as Chelsea’s captain before the 2023–2024 season following Cesar Azpilicueta’s departure. But after suffering his second hamstring injury of the season, his campaign is already gone. Therefore, Chelsea needs to make a right-back acquisition before the January transfer window opens. As a result, Matty Cash has become a realistic target.

Chelsea has had the 26-year-old on its radar for a while. But in the last two transfer windows, no move has happened. Gusto and James haven’t been too reliable this season, so that will need to alter in January.

It’s uncertain how Aston Villa will react to Chelsea’s offer. However, going into the January transfer window, the West London club could still pursue the Polish international. Thus, it will be interesting to watch how these events develop over the next few weeks.
