Gold Glover and former Braves and Angels Andrelton Simmons announces his retirement.

A former Gold Glover for the Braves and Angels has formally announced his retirement.

After a decade of outstanding defensive play, Andrelton Simmons, a Gold Glove

winner and former teammate of Shohei Ohtani of the Angels, officially announced his retirement on Thursday.

His declaration followed the November announcement of the group of 2023 Gold Glove winners, which included, among

others, Anthony Volpe of the New York Yankees and Ha-Seong Kim of the San Diego Padres.

Over the course of his eleven-season MLB career, Simmons played for the

Twins, Braves, and Angels. In 2022, he concluded his career with a 34-game season with the Cubs.

As soon as the news officially broke on Thursday, the announcement was made on Twitter.

Both media analysts and fans responded to the former defensive wizard with reverence.

A snapshot of Simmons’ MLB career

2010 saw the draft selection of Simmons from Western Oklahoma State College.

In 2013, while playing for the Atlanta Braves, he won his first Gold Glove. That season, he finished 14th out of all

National League contenders in the MVP voting, hit 17 home runs, and knocked in 59 runners.

ISE Baseball, a marketing firm, celebrated him for his accomplishments

on and off the field, making the announcement on its Instagram page on Thursday.

The stat that stands out the most about Simmons is probably the one that no one else has ever achieved. The greatest

number of defensive runs saved by a shortstop in Major League Baseball history, Simmons’s total was 201 when he retired.

Despite not being well-known, Simmons will be remembered for his contributions

as one of the best defenders of a generation of Major League Baseball players.
