According to TEAMtalk, Matty Sorinola is a new free agent that Southampton, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, and Preston North End are all interested in.
Sorinola is a wing-back for Southampton, and Russell Martin is well-versed in him. Last season, he took him to Swansea City on loan after managing him at MK Dons.
This season, the 22-year-old has returned to Belgium with Union SG. He hasn’t made an appearance in the first half of the 2023–24 season, though, since he hasn’t been given any opportunities by the Jupiler Pro League team.
Union SG thereupon declared on Thursday that they had mutually decided to end Sorinola’s contract. As a result, he can now consider his alternatives and sign with a new team as a free agent. Championship teams are aware of his circumstances.
As Martin aims to connect with the young player for a third time, Southampton is one of the teams
showing interest. Sorinola is also a target for Middlesbrough, Stoke City, and
Preston North End, according to the TEAMtalk report.
Back to England?
Sorinola first made a name for himself with MK Dons, managing two goals and six assists in 46 games for the League One side. He can play as a wing-back or full-back on the left or right.
He’s also got Championship experience from his Swansea City stint. While Sorinola hasn’t found much action in Belgium, Union SG are a side heralded for their player development, so hopefully the London-born ace has been able to make strides forward despite his limited chances.
