Too bad :With eight players missing against Liverpool, Eddie Howe is keeping his fingers crossed for the captain

With eight players missing against Liverpool, Eddie Howe is keeping his fingers crossed for the captain

Before his team travels to Anfield on Monday, Eddie Howe has a long list of

injuries, and he is still unsure if his captain will be fit for the match.

The number of games has only made the Magpies’ problems worse as they have

lost four of their last five Premier League games due to a mounting injury list.

Newcastle’s most recent home loss came at the hands of Nottingham Forest, 3-1,

and they will be entering Merseyside with a dismal away record—just five points from nine away games.

Although Howe won’t have a plethora of players returning from injury in time for Monday’s match, he was a little

optimistic about captain Jamaal Lascelles’ availability following his absence from their Boxing Day match.

Jamaal Howe told reporters on Friday, “We don’t think seriously, and we hope

we can get him back pretty soon.” “Let’s wait and see whether he returns against Liverpool.” Let’s cross our fingers.

It was the first of two times he would mention his captain. “Hopefully, Jamaal

Lascelles will return soon,” he continued, “but I don’t think it’s a serious injury.”

Other than that, I don’t think anything will return anytime soon.

Therefore, Lascelles is still uncertain, but we do know that on New Year’s Day, Newcastle will be without any of the

following players: Nick Pope (shoulder), Matt Targett (thigh), Harvey Barnes (foot), Sandro Tonali (ban), Joe Willock

(achilles), Jacob Murphy (shoulder), Elliot Anderson (back), Javi Manquillo (groin), or Nick Pope (shoulder).

Joelinton, who is expected to start at Anfield after playing 19 minutes in his comeback from a hamstring strain, gave them a boost the last time out

Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron, Anthony Gordon, and Alexander Isak are all

available for Howe to choose from, despite the fact that his options are somewhat limited. Fabian Schar and

Sven Botman are expected to play center back together, with Lascelles clearly doubtful.
