Annoying and frustrating:Daniel Farke contests the penalty call during the “critical” Leeds defeat

Daniel Farke contests the penalty call during the “critical” Leeds defeat

Following a 1-0 loss at West Brom, Leeds lost more ground in the race for automatic promotion from the

Championship, and manager Daniel Farke of Leeds insisted his team should have been given a penalty.

For the first time this season, Leeds lost two games in a row when Baggies defender Cedric Kipre challenged

Wilfried Gnonto in the 30th minute. Referee Graham Scott’s decision to not award a spot-kick infuriated Farke.

Grady Diangana’s goal seven minutes later gave the Baggies a back-to-back home victory and pulled them to within three points of fourth-place Leeds.

“When he’s one on one with the goalie, why should he go down?” stated Farke.

It would have also resulted in a red card if it had been a penalty.

It was a pivotal point in the game because there was no plan to play the ball.

“Against a side that was so intent on defending, it changed so much.”

When Okay Yokuslu split the Leeds defense to allow Jed Wallace to cross, Diangana’s first attempt was blocked by Joe Rodon. Diangana then scored with his knee.

Leeds failed to put goalkeeper Alex Palmer to the test despite controlling 63% of the play, and Farke acknowledged his team lacked creativity.

We played well in the beginning, but we lacked the final two or three percent ferocity needed to take the lead, which is why we lost, according to Farke.

“We altered our base configuration and activated our offensive players, while they activated all of their defensive players and demonstrated remarkable dedication to thwart our attacks.

“To win those headers or to shoot after a really clean first touch to get the shot away, we needed that final few percent brutality.”

Carlos Corberan, the head coach of West Brom, praised his team’s “special” performance.

“The players’ dedication to the game made it exceptional,” he remarked

We understood that in order to defeat Leeds, you needed a lot of talented

players, a formidable squad, and a lot of team spirit, mentality, and personality in your play.

“With Jed Wallace, we discovered some excellent opportunities to cross from our right side, and we scored from one of these moves.

“We had to adjust our shape and defend the goal we scored in the second half after they changed formation and

became very aggressive with many attacking players.”

Corberan continued, “I don’t know because I haven’t seen the action back,” in response to Leeds’ requests for a penalty.
