Morgan Gibbs-White’s goal gave Nottingham Forest their first win over Manchester United since 1994, as the home team prevailed 2-1.

After 11 meetings between the two teams across all competitions, the Red Devils

had prevailed, but in just five days, new manager Nuno Espirito Santo would celebrate an incredible second victory.

A memorable 2-1 victory was sealed by Gibbs-White’s incredible late goal from

the edge of the box, following Marcus Rashford’s disastrous pass to cancel out Nicolas Dominguez’s opening goal.

This was United’s 14th loss across all competitions this year, and it was a terrible way for the team to finish the

year as they were only a shadow of the team that defeated Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

Winner of the match At the City Ground, Ten Hag’s team struggled after losing

with Rasmus Hojlund absent due to illness. A forgettable first half gave way to a pulsating  second period

In the 64th minute, Rodriguez gave Forest the lead. However, in the 78th

minute, Rashford scored a goal to tie the score, cutting out a poor pass from under-fire Turner.

Four minutes later, however, the goalkeeper helped make apologies by stopping Christian Eriksen before the

home team surged up the field and Gibbs-White put the home team back ahead.

For the first time since 1992, Forest defeated United at home thanks to

Turner’s resolute performance in stoppage time.

Alongside Sir Alex Ferguson, the director of sport at INEOS, Sir Dave Brailsford

watched with interest as Kobbie Mainoo made his way toward an early attempt at Domingue

Chris Wood, full of confidence after his Boxing Day hat-trick against Newcastle,

missed the mark with his drive before United pulled off a near-miss in the eleventh minute.

Anthony Elanga, a former United player, sent a cross into the left corner. Raphael

Varane attempted an awkward cut back, but the ball went over the defenseless Andre Onana and across the goal line.

The Forest supporters chanted “you’re not famous anymore” as their team

maintained their lead, largely due to United’s shoddy passing and decision-making.

Just as they had done when Aaron Wan-Bissaka had his shot blocked moments

after Ryan Yates had been cleared off the ball at the other end, the home team shut out Ten Hag’s men in attacking areas.

A forgettable first half continued until Mainoo was replaced by Scott McTominay at halftime.

In the 54th minute, to the chorus of “what a waste of money” from the Forest, Ten Hag would also substitute Amad

Diallo for Antony, marking the player’s first United appearance in two years.

A minute later, United’s misfiring team almost took the lead thanks to an

unlikely source in Diogo Dalot. The full-back’s initial long drive was redirected off the right-hand post.

In actuality, though, Forest had come out of halftime with more bite to their play, and by minute 64, the City Ground was agog.

Gonzalo Montiel, the right-back, was set up by Elanga, and he used a deft touch

and a clever cutback to set up Dominguez, who scored with his right foot in the bottom corner.

The stadium erupted, just as it did midway through 10 minutes of stoppage

time when Turner brilliantly tipped over a deflected Fernandes volley.

Amad was also denied before the final whistle saw players collapse to the turf.
