Abdul Fatawu has been encouraged by Enzo Maresca to take advantage of his exclusion from Ghana’s Africa Cup of

Nations team in order to persuade Leicester City to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer.

The winger’s decision to stay with the team for the next six weeks as opposed

to competing for his country in the Ivory Coast tournament has been warmly received by the City manager. Although Fatawu was a part of Ghana’s

preliminary team, Chris Hughton, the manager, did not include him in the final lineup that was revealed on Monday.

According to Maresca, Fatawu’s form is helping City and presents an opportunity for the teenager. With one more month

to make an impression at King Power Stadium, the 19-year-old, who is currently on loan from Sporting Lisbon,

might persuade the team to fork over the money to sign him permanently in the summer.

It would be better for us to see Abdul in January, Maresca said, if you were to ask me if it would be better for him to play

for his international team or here. Additionally, Abdul is a loan player, which gives us options going forward.

“We probably struggle a little bit more to make our final decision when we lose a player for a month.” He has more time

now to continue demonstrating his talent to us. We will then make a decision at the conclusion.

Maresca’s assertion that City still has the option to decide regarding Fatawu does

not align with information from Portuguese reports. There, they claim that the loan agreement contains a

mandatory purchase agreement worth €17 million (£14.7 million), which will kick in if City is promoted.

In Ghana, there have also been rumors that Fatawu declined a call-up to

concentrate on City and make sure he accrues the necessary number of minutes to fulfill a loan contract

purchase clause. Hughton probably would have kept Fatawu as a reserve if he had been a member of the Ghana team.
