Transfer update news: Southampton wants to sign liverpool star on loan
|Liverpool starlet wanted on loan by Southampton, report claims
After his previous loan agreement at RB Leipzig was terminated, Southampton is interested in loaning attacker Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool, according to The Mail Online.
Southampton is only three points behind Ipswich Town, who are currently in
second place in the table and have had a strong start to the season. They will be
looking to the January transfer window to bolster their ranks and close the gap
between them and the automatic promotion spots.
This season, Russell Martin’s team has already used the loan market to bring in
four Premier League players on short-term contracts. Mason Holgate, Ryan
Fraser, Flynn Downes, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis all joined in the summer,
though the latter is anticipated to return to Everton soon.
As a result, St. Mary’s has an opening for a loan player, and The Mail Online reports that they have identified
Liverpool’s Carvalho as a possible target. The 21-year-old played for German team
RB Leipzig for the first half of the season, but his contract was terminated because
of a lack of playing time. Southampton hopes to benefit as the Reds are expected
to send the Portuguese player out on another loan.
A great signing
If the Saints can get a deal over the line for Carvalho this would seriously help
their promotion credentials. He is a player that has proven his worth in the
Championship during his time at Fulham before the switch to Anfield and so has
the experience and ability to thrive in Martin’s Southampton side.
He is also something distinct from what they now have. He can assist relieve
some of the pressure on their existing group of talented attackers by being
direct with the ball, quick, and goal-oriented.
Enabling him to sign with a Championship team will also make it simpler for Liverpool to monitor him.
According to the article, they are not the only clubs keeping an eye on the player,
therefore this may be a more lucrative option for him should any Premier
League teams make an approach. Time will tell.
