Jalen Hurts was the clear favorite to take home the MVP Award just over a month ago.

He’s not even a Pro Bowler anymore.

Hurts was notably absent when the NFL Pro Bowl rosters were revealed on in

Wednesday night, despite his inclusion in 2022. The three quarterbacks selected from the NFC were Brock Purdy of the

49ers (starter), Dak Prescott of the Cowboys, and Matthew Stafford of the Rams.

Given that Hurts is a first-alternate, it’s plausible—even likely—that he will make the Pro Bowl in 2023.

With a franchise-high 38 touchdowns this season, Hurts is ranked second

among NFL quarterbacks in total touchdowns. The only quarterback ahead of him this season is Josh Allen of

the Bills, with 42. Another noteworthy absence from the AFC roster this year was Alle

Hurts has guided the Eagles to an 11-5 record in 16 games this season, finishing 66.1% of his passes for 3,803 yards with 23 passing touchdowns and 14

interceptions. In addition, he has run for 601 yards, 15 more touchdowns, and five fumble recoveries.

Here’s how those stats compare to the quarterbacks from the NFC Pro Bowl

Hurts: (11-5), 66.1%, 3,803 yards, 23 TDs, 14 INTs; 601 rushing yards, 15 TDs

Purdy: (12-4), 69.4%, 4,280 yards, 31 TDs, 11 INTs; 144 rushing yards, 2 TDs

Prescott: (11-5), 68.4%, 4,237 yards, 32 TDs, 8 INTs; 242 yards, 2 TDs

Stafford: (9-6), 62.6%, 3,965 yards, 24 TDs, 11 INTs; 65 rushing yards

Hurts has superior overall numbers than Stafford when you take into account the

rushing stats, but it’s difficult to argue that he should be selected for the Pro Bowl over Purdy or Prescott.

Additionally, the Eagles’ record is superior to the Rams’. However, it’s possible that Hurts’ errors kept him out.

Six of Hurts’ teammates—Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson, A.J.

Brown, D’Andre Swift, and Haason Reddick—made the Pro Bowl despite Hurts’ absence from it.

Aside from Hurts, the Eagles have a number of other alternates as well:

defensive end Josh Sweat, defensive end Josh Elliott, tight end Dallas Goedert, guard Cam Jurgens, return specialist

Britain Covey, tackle Jordan Mailata, defensive tackle Jalen Carter, tight end Jake Elliott, and guard Darius Slay.

The Cowboys’ Brandon Aubrey is the kicker ahead of Elliott. DaRon Bland,

Charvarius Ward, Jaylon Johnson, and Devon Witherspoon are the corners in front of Slay.
