Sunderland interested in Aston Villa man who is set for Championship loan

Sunderland hold interest in Aston Villa man Lamare Bogarde, as per The Athletic.

Sunderland sit 6th in the Championship table and are hoping to register back-to-back play-off finishes in the second tier.

If the Black Cats are to hold off fierce Championship competition for the top six slots, they will need to put in extra work this month.

Bogarde, 19, has been on loan at Bristol Rovers in League One for the first half of the season.

The midfielder from the Netherlands, who made 14 appearances in the third division, is reportedly going to be loaned out once more, this time to the Championship, after being called up to Villa Park.

According to recent reports, Villa is eager to loan Bogarde back out because they

want the Premier League team to give him as much exposure as possible.

Aberdeen, a top-tier Scottish team, is also interested in the young player, providing

Sunderland with some transfer competition.

Fitting the bill

The Black Cats are well known for signing youngsters nowadays and Bogarde fits the bill to a tee.

If it comes down to it, his familiarity with Sunderland head coach Michael Beale from his time as a coach at Villa Park could help Sunderland win the battle for the 19-year-old.

This month, Sunderland could need a central midfielder, but many supporters

will wonder if Bogarde can step in as Sunderland’s holding midfielder.

He hasn’t played at a senior level as high as the Championship yet, and many

Wearside supporters believe they could need more rather than less experience.

For the time being, though, all eyes in the northeast will be on Saturday when Newcastle United plays their FA Cup third-round match at the Stadium of Light, a short flight away.
