Huge injury blow: Another Falcons QB suffers a serious hamstring injury that will keep him out for a lengthy period
|Falcons QB Taylor Heinicke suffers hamstring injury vs. Cardinals; Desmond Ridder fills in
After the Falcons’ 25-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday,
quarterback Taylor Heinicke of the Atlanta Falcons sustained a hamstring
injury. What you should know is as follows:
- Heinicke exited the game after being tackled by Zaven Collins on an 8-yard run with 13:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. He was replaced by Desmond Ridder, who rushed for a go-ahead touchdown with 2:33 left in the game.
- Heinecke went 8-for-15 passing for 55 yards and one touchdown before the injury.
- The veteran QB, who signed with Atlanta this offseason after three years with the Washington Commanders, replaced Ridder in a 28-23 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 9 and has started since.
What this means for Falcons
Heinicke had only 55 passing yards when he left the game, despite the fact that the Falcons offense had scored 48 points in
six quarters with him on the field. This gives quarterback Arthur Smith of the
Falcons an opportunity to return to the man he had
believed would be Atlanta’s
quarterback of the future. Smith had previously stated that he was thinking
about giving Ridder another run at the starting position this season.
After starting all eight of Atlanta’s games this season, Ridder was benched halfway
through the team’s Week 8 matchup with Tennessee.
