Commentator Carlton Palmer questions whether Lamare Bogarde, a midfielder for Aston Villa, would be a wise addition to Sunderland

The Black Cats are eager to bring Bogarde to the Stadium of Light on loan this month, according to The Athletic. This would allow him to rejoin with head coach Michael Beale, with whom he previously worked at Villa Park.

But, Sunderland will have fierce competition for Bogarde’s signature from Scottish Premiership team Aberdeen as well as other Championship teams Cardiff City, Watford, and Southampton.

Bogarde was recalled by Villa earlier this month after spending the first half of the

season on loan at Bristol Rovers, a team in League One.

The 20-year-old made 18 appearances for the Gas in all competitions and contributed two assists, but once Matt Taylor was hired last month, he saw a decrease in playing time.

Although they are presently sixth in the Championship league, Sunderland was

disappointed to lose 3-0 at home to local rivals Newcastle United in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Palmer: Bogarde would be a risk for Sunderland

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Palmer said that while he has reservations over the potential signing of Bogarde, he believes a reunion with Beale could be good for the midfielder.

“Sunderland and Mick Beale are planning to raid Aston Villa to sign Lamare Bogarde on loan,” Palmer said.

“He was previously employed by Manager Beale at Aston Villa.

“After spending his loan season at Bristol Rovers without scoring a goal, Bogarde was brought back.

“Villa made the decision to send him out to play at a higher level and to return him.

“Aston Villa is eager for Bogarde to go out with a familiar manager and develop as a player in a team that was performing well in the Championship. It is concerning when a player goes out on loan and doesn’t perform well, but Mick Beale has a reputation for working with young players and knows Bogarde really well.

“This occasionally occurs; you go to a club and things don’t work out; perhaps it’s the way the game is played, in which case you can go out again.

“He is a young player, and he is highly rated at Aston Villa, so hopefully knowing the manager and a club that is doing really well, he can excel.”

Would Lamare Bogarde be a good signing for Sunderland?

Bogarde would be an intriguing addition for the Black Cats.

Bogarde’s loan stint at Bristol Rovers came to an unfortunate end when he lost favor under Taylor, but he is a player with a lot of potential, as seen by the number of teams allegedly interested in signing him this month and the fact that he has played for the Netherlands U20.
While Bogarde’s readiness for the Championship is still up in the air, Palmer notes that he might flourish under Beale’s guidance once more.
