|Leicester City have send scouts to watch these 3 playersÂ
Although a return to the Premier League appears inevitable for Leicester City, they
may require a few additions in January to strengthen their position atop the standings.
After a hectic summer that saw several well-known players transfer to King
Power Stadium in spite of their relegation to the Championship, the Foxes are presently leading the table
But they shouldn’t be sitting back with half the football season left to play. They
should keep adding players to Maresca’s squad in the January transfer window.
Joe Worrall, the captain of Nottingham Forest, is a player Leicester should watch closely going forward.
Following rumors that the Reds captain had been ordered to train away from the
first team by former manager Steve Cooper, the Foxes were linked to each other last month.
Worrall has only played 439 minutes of Premier League football this year, but he
has already shown his mettle in the Championship, starting 30 games for Forest in the top flight last year.
Uncertainty surrounds what new manager Nuno Espirito Santo has in store for the center-back, but he might be a wise addition for the Foxes, giving their
defense a seasoned presence and making him someone to keep an eye on while Wout Faes’ future is being discussed.
Leicester should give Matias Areza some consideration as a potential replacement,
as striker Kelechi Iheanacho garnered interest in January.
This season, while on loan at CA Penarol, the Uruguayan striker has had an
incredible season, scoring 22 goals in 40 games for the Uruguayan team. Before joining his parent club Granada again in
the new year, he assisted his club in finishing second in the Uruguayan Primera Division.
It’s unclear if Arezo will get the opportunity to play at Grenada, especially considering the Spanish team’s current La Liga relegation struggle.
Nevertheless, he has proven in Uruguay that he is a deadly striker, so Leicester should consider looking at him during
the January transfer window given the possibility of Iheanacho leaving and Jamie Vardy not getting any younger.
The Senegalese midfielder is a highly regarded defensive midfield player who
has recently drawn comparisons to Wilfred Ndidi. Gueye might be the ideal player to take Ndidi’s place at Leicester
when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign, with Barcelona reportedly showing interest.
Gueye is an excellent ball-winning midfielder in addition to being skilled with the ball at his feet. Compared to
Ndidi, who averages 1.3 tackles per game this season, he completes 1.4 tackles on average per game.
He demonstrated his skill both with and without the ball by having more average
passes per game (33.3 vs. 25.1) than Ndidi did during his loan season at Sevilla last year. He may be a long-term replacement
for the Nigerian midfielder at the age of 24, but Leicester must be concerned about his lack of playing time.
Due to the pre-contract he signed with Watford in 2020, FIFA ruled that Gueye’s move to Marseille was illegal, and as a
result, he was suspended for four months in July. Scouts from Leicester will have to wait and see how the Nigerian’s
four months off the field have affected him, but he might be a smart addition to take Ndidi’s spot in the future.
