“Tony Mowbray will be frustrated” – Carlton Palmer makes Sunderland transfer claim as he backs Bournemouth pursuit

Carlton Palmer believes Kieffer Moore would be a good signing for Sunderland after they were linked with the striker.

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Carlton Palmer believes Kieffer Moore would be a good signing for Sunderland due to their lack of goals from strikers.
  •  Signing Moore would be a departure from Sunderland’s usual recruitment approach, as they typically target young, up-and-coming players.
  •  January is a crucial month for Sunderland to strengthen their squad if they want to achieve promotion and Moore would provide experience and a focal point upfront.

Carlton Palmer, who has urged the large striker to leave his imprint on Wearside,

thinks Sunderland should try to sign Kieffer Moore from Bournemouth.

Sunderland interested in Kieffer Moore

It has been a hectic season so far for the Black Cats, who currently occupy the final play-off spot in the Championship.

However, they will face a big battle to finish in the top six, and one major

problem that they will need to address is the lack of goals from strikers.

Nazariy Rusyn is the only player in the team with one goal, which he scored on

New Year’s Day against Preston; no other number nine has scored in the league.

As a result, the Wearside team is anticipated to be looking for a new

attacker this month. Over the weekend, rumors surfaced suggesting that Moore is one of their targets.

Sunderland could change transfer approach

If a deal for the Welsh international is finalised, it would represent a big shift in approach from Sunderland when it comes to recruitment.

Generally, they have targeted young, hungry players who are on their way up in the game, but at 31, Moore is someone who would be a short-term signing.

That had been a difficult matter for outgoing manager Tony Mowbray, who wanted the team to add more seasoned players in an effort to build on his successful inaugural season. However, that never actually materialized, and Mowbray was fired last month.

The former England international Palmer told FLW that Sunderland would benefit financially from this latest development, but he acknowledged that Tony Mowbray would be irritated by it. “Tony Mowbray will be frustrated and disappointed at hearing the news,” Palmer said, adding that “he maintained to the board that Sunderland needed a balance of youth and experience in their signings.”

“Sunderland needs goals at the top of the pitch. They signed a number of talented

strikers in the summer, but as of right now, they haven’t lived up to

expectations. Moore is similar in stature to Ross Stewart, who left the club, since

he is tall, mobile, and good in both boxes. Given his age, this would probably be a

loan deal, and the supporters would take to him right away.

“Sunderland, who presently occupy sixth place in the Championship, may be able to guarantee a play-off spot for a second consecutive season with the addition of Moore’s firepower.”

Sunderland needs to win in January.

Everyone associated with the club was affected negatively by the recent FA Cup

loss to Newcastle United, especially given the numerous off-field problems that accompanied it.

But Beale and the group must now concentrate on winning the championship, and as was always the

intention, they are very much in the running this season.

Although the Stadium of Light has a lot of quality, they still need to address a few spots in January, the most obvious being the number nine spot.

Moore would provide the club with a focal point, and the young dressing room would benefit from his promotion-winning experience.

However, if this isn’t possible, they have to go elsewhere because this month’s team improvement is crucial.
