|Atlanta has not completed all of its tradesĀ
It’s clear that Atlanta is still trying to add depth and fortify its roster.
So much for a ‘quiet” Winter Meetings week, huh?
Starting on Sunday night with the trade for new leftfielder Jarred Kelenic, the Atlanta Braves and president of baseball
operations Alex Anthopoulos made three trades this week. Later, they traded both of the players acquired in that deal, LHP
Marco Gonzales and 1B Evan White, to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Angels, respectively
And it makes sense that AA isn’t done yet because, despite his admission that he’s
happy with his eight starting spots, depth is always his top priority on the field. Now that veteran catcher Max Stassi is a
trade chip owned by Atlanta, it feels like a helpful bit of leverage in a backstop-heavy free agency class.
It remains to be seen if Atlanta packages Stassi into a bigger deal or flips him in a one-for-one trade for an arm, but the
Braves are definitely in a better position to negotiate on Saturday morning than they were just a day earlier.
