Chelsea boss responds to question about Evan Ferguson transfer links: “You know very well”

Mauricio Pochettino claims that Chelsea are assessing the January transfer situation

Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his reluctance to discuss players linked with Chelsea, emphasizing the team’s focus on evaluating circumstances as they explore potential January transfers.

The Blues are reportedly considering a move for forward Evan Ferguson, a player they have admired for a while. However, any potential deal might involve negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion once again.

Recalling the prolonged negotiations for Moises Caicedo, where Chelsea broke the British transfer record, the club might face a similar scenario with Brighton, who are likely to demand a substantial fee for the talented youngster. Pochettino’s remarks suggest a cautious approach as Chelsea navigates the intricacies of the transfer market.

The 19-year-old has reportedly received a £100 million price tag from the Seagulls, and it’s unclear if Chelsea will shell out a significant sum of money to acquire the striker once more. However, in response to a question regarding the Ferguson connections, Pochettino stated (via Football.London):

“No. You are well aware that I avoid discussing rumors or players who play for other teams. I’m really considerate. We’re not exchanging words. While we are evaluating the squad, we will keep you informed if anything changes. We haven’t made any decisions as of yet.

Chelsea and Brighton have a track record of trading players, having already made significant acquisitions of Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo. Before joining the Chelsea main squad, Levi Colwill was even sent out on loan to the Amex to gain experience. It’s unclear if Ferguson will add his name to the list.

Although Ferguson started the new season off brilliantly, his play has significantly declined, and he is now rarely a threat in front of goal. It is reasonable that, at just 19, he will improve as a striker with every season.

But it doesn’t make sense for Blues to want him since we need a trustworthy striker, not another kid. Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson are already here. Instead of spending £100 million on a young player, we should add more cash and try to sign Victor Osimhen, a top-tier player who is far along in his development cycle.
