Transfer update:Same agent as Walker-Peters: Southampton in the mix to sign “brilliant” new defender for Martin

Southampton in the mix to sign “absolutely brilliant” Premier League player

A host of other English clubs are also in the mix.

Southampton are expressing an interest in signing a “absolutely brilliant” Premier League player in the January transfer window, according to a fresh report.

Southampton transfer news

The Saints are flying on the pitch at the moment, thumping Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 on Saturday afternoon, and they also

continue to be linked with new signings who could aid their Championship promotion push

between now and the end of the season, with Bournemouth midfielder Joe

Rothwell looking likely to be the first loan arrival of the month.

Ussumane Djalo, a 19-year-old midfielder who presently plays for Porto, is one player who has surfaced as a possible

target for Southampton. Lamare Bogarde, a young player for Aston Villa,

has also received support to transfer to St Mary’s Stadium. Conversely, a few

players may leave Saints this month, such as striker Che Adams, who was

reportedly connected to a move to Wolves in the Premier League.

It looks as though the south coast club are looking to England’s top tier for a possible new addition to Russell Martin’s side, however, after a new transfer claim emerged.

Southampton want Ben Johnson

According to Football Insider, Southampton are one of many clubs interested in signing Ben Johnson, alongside promotion rivals Leeds, with a move away from West Ham potentially happening for the defender this month.

“Sources close to Football Insider have revealed that teams interested in signing West Ham star Ben Johnson this month include Rangers, Leeds United, and Sheffield United. The 23-year-old may leave the London Stadium on loan before the deadline of February 1st, and Southampton is reportedly among the teams in the running for his services.

“Johnson is entering the final six months of his West Ham contract and is keen to play regular first-team football after struggling for game time with David Moyes’ side.”

Johnson might be a great addition to Southampton because he has established experience playing in the Premier League, having made 57 appearances for West Ham in the league and adding two goals as well.

The 23-year-old Hammers star, who can play center back, right back, left back, or

even as a midfielder, would provide potential talent and experience to the

defense in addition to making effective use of his versatility.

He has been called “absolutely brilliant” by former England and Tottenham

goalkeeper Paul Robinson, and he will undoubtedly be amenable to ending his tenure at the London Stadium.

Johnson, who has 10 caps for England’s Under-21 team, is only 23 years old. Given his high regard, he could still have a lot to offer. He could have a big impact in the Championship and help Southampton secure a spot back in the Premier League.

The Englishman, who also happens to have the same agency as Kyle Walker-Peters, won the UEFA Europa Conference League with West Ham. If the Saints are able to beat off other teams for his signature before the end of the month, this player is definitely one to watch.
