Packers humiliate Cowboys in a stunning playoff outcome; winners and losers

The No. 2 Dallas Cowboys were humiliated by the No. 7 Green Bay

Packers on Sunday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in the first unexpected outcome of this year’s NFL playoffs.

With 27 points in a row to start the wild-card game, the Packers led by a comfortable margin at halftime (27–7). The Cowboys would not get any closer

than 16 points in the second half as Green Bay easily defeated Dallas 48-32 to snap the Cowboys’ 16-game home winning strea

The Packers upset a No. 2 seed, becoming the first No. 7 seed to do so since the NFL playoff field was expanded to 14 teams in

2020, behind first-year starting quarterback Jordan Love. The seven-seeded team had not won in six games prio

The Packers, who are ranked last in the NFC, will now play the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round.

But first, let’s take a look at the winners and losers from Green Bay’s upset of Dallas before moving on to that game:

Mike McCarthy is a loser.

Were the Cowboys aware that this was a postseason match? The Cowboys needed

to win just two home games to advance to their first conference championship

game since the 1995 season, as they were the NFC’s second-seeded team going into the postseason.

But the vibes seemed off for America’s Team from the jump on Sunday, and they didn’t show any real signs of life until

falling into a 27-0 hole. The head coach is ultimately to blame for Dallas’ lack of preparation for the game.

Yes, under McCarthy’s leadership, the Cowboys have gone 36-15 in their last

three regular seasons; however, two of those campaigns have concluded with losses at home in the wild-card round.

With Bill Belichick suddenly available and this most recent early playoff exit, will Jerry Jones replace his head coach

Winner: Jordan Love

One day, yet another outstanding NFL playoff debut from a young quarterback. Love tore apart Dallas’ defense to lead the Houston Texans to a lopsided victory,

one day after rookie C.J. Stroud of the Browns dominated the Cleveland team in a blowout victory.

The 25-year-old completed 16 of 21 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns, displaying incredible

efficiency. Among his many impressive passes was a 20-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks.

Following a strong regular season, Love outperformed Dak Prescott in his first

playoff start, behaving like a seasoned veteran. The conference’s top scoring

defense is now waiting to face him in San Francisco after he easily overcame the NFC’s second-ranked scoring defense.

Loser: Dak Prescott

Prescott appeared as though he was making his playoff debut, not Love.

Dallas’ appalling first half was exacerbated by the probable MVP candidate’s two brutal interceptions.

In the last second of the first quarter, Jaire Alexander intercepted Prescott, which put the Packers in the red zone

Running back Aaron Jones scored a touchdown on a one-yard run to help Green Bay convert the interception into points.

Prescott then threw the ball directly into the hands of safety Darnell Savage, who

returned it 64 yards to the house for a pick-six with Dallas trailing 20-0 late in the first half.

On Dallas’ next play, linebacker De’Vondre Campbell almost picked off Prescott a third time, but he was unable to haul it in.

Winner: Aaron Jones

Aaron Jones would rank among the all-time great running backs if he was able to play for the Cowboys every

week. The former Pro Bowler had the highest average of any player with at least three head-to-head meetings with

the Cowboys going into Sunday, averaging 123 rushing yards per game against them.

The native of El Paso, Texas, continued to dominate the Cowboys, scoring three touchdowns and gaining 118 yards on 21 carries.

Jones now has nine touchdowns in four career games against Dallas thanks to his playoff hat trick.

Winner: Romeo Doubs

Romeo Doubs, a wideout for the Packers, recorded 674 receiving yards during the regular season. Against Dallas, he scored almost a quarter of that total.

For the first time in his brief career, Doubs exceeded 100 yards receiving when he caught all six of his targets for 151 yards and one touchdown.

The Packers’ 2022 fourth-round selection made history by being just the third player to ever record at least 150 receiving yards in a postseason contest.
