Done deal:Auburn lands an incredible player that could cause havoc to rivals

Auburn lands commitment from former Texas DB Jerrin Thompson

According to a post on his Instagram, Jerrin Thompson, a safety transferring from Texas, committed to Auburn, which was in need of experienced defensive backs.

Thompson, a native of Texas, has participated in four straight double-digit games as a Longhorn. In his career, he has 176 tackles, five interceptions, and one forced fumble.

Auburn’s defeat by Maryland in the Music City Bowl demonstrated the necessity for them to add secondary experience. Four reliable starters in Auburn’s secondary—Jaylin Simpson, DJ James, Zion Puckett, and Nehemiah Pritchett—are heading to the NFL.

Only Puckett participated in the bowl game out of those four. After those players go for the NFL, Auburn’s secondary is comprised with highly regarded high school recruits who haven’t had much experience in college.

Thompson becomes Auburn’s most seasoned defensive back right away. The young people are under less pressure to contribute so rapidly with his addition.
