Ex-Premier League forward tips Southampton for second in Championship

PRIOR Clinton Morrison, a striker in the Premier League, has backed Saints to finish second toward the end of the season after defeating Leeds United and Ipswich Town.

While commentating on Soccer Saturday, the 36-year-old Irish international was covering Southampton’s 4-0 thumping of Sheffield Wednesday.

With the victory, Southampton moved up to second place in the standings and tied

the club’s record for the longest unbeaten streak in the Football League, even before Ipswich won the late kickoff.

Sekou Mara’s fourth goal for Southampton was assessed by Morrison,

who then said, “Southampton are going up, remember I said that.”

When asked what he thought the battle for second place would be like, Morrison responded, “I think Southampton and Leeds look the strongest.” These two teams have got fantastic squads.

“If I had to put my hat on anyone, I would have to choose Southampton but it’s going to go right down to the wire with Leeds and Ipswich.”

The last day of the Championship season, Saturday, May 4, sees Saints take on Leeds United at Elland Road.

They also visit Ipswich Town on Monday, April 1, and Leicester on Saturday, March 16.

Saints are three points behind Ipswich and four points clear of Leeds, who are currently in fourth position in the Championship.
