|Falcons interview NFC South defensive coordinator for coaching vacancy
The Atlanta Falcons are keeping NFC south rivals in mind in their search for a new head coach after firing Arthur Smith.
The Atlanta Falcons sacked head coach Arthur Smith after yet another poor season that ended in a missed postseason opportunity. They are currently looking far and wide for the next person to man the sidelines. Smith had been the Falcons’ head coach since 2021, but three consecutive seven-win seasons signaled his resignation and allowed a number of other applicants to audition for the position.
It was revealed on Sunday that the Carolina Panthers and other NFC South opponents were among the teams
Atlanta was considering for a new head coach. The team declared that they
would be interviewing Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero for the
position in a post on X, the site that was formerly known as Twitter.
The fan base may be a little taken aback by the news for a number of reasons.
Firstly, the Panthers’ defensive success this past season wasn’t exactly a model of excellence (albeit a significant part of
that can likely be attributed to a lack of talent). Second, the majority of fans’
primary complaint about Arthur Smith was his alleged reluctance to pass the
ball to Atlanta’s talent players when they were attacking. On the other hand, the
Falcons defense fared rather well over the bulk of the season.
Fans want to break the pattern of mediocrity that has characterized the Falcons since the team’s last postseason trip in the 2017–18 campaign, regardless of the path the team decides to take for the future. The Falcons are probably not going to rush into a choice that will shape the team for many years to come.
