Oklahoma City Proving It Can Win Without 3-Point Shooting

There’s no denying that this team has snipers, and outside shooting has contributed significantly to the Thunder’s achievements. However, it’s as crucial to figure out how to grind out victories when the 3-point shot isn’t dropping. And that’s just what the Thunder did against the Magic on Saturday night. Oklahoma City shot a combined 8 of 36 from long range to end the game at a 22.2% clip. Despite having a poor start and struggling to score in the latter moments, the squad managed to stay in charge the entire time.

Throughout the season, the Thunder have won games thanks to their outside shooting, but not on Saturday night. Oklahoma City’s ability to handle business depended on the team’s strength. Orlando shot 39 of 84 from the field and 20 percent from the free throw line due to the Thunder’s outstanding defense.

The Thunder had nine different players score, and every member of the starting lineup finished with double digit points. Orlando was unable to respond as Gilgeous-Alexander scored 37 points on 13 of 20 shots to seal the victory. Oklahoma City will need to make 3-pointers and shoot well from long range in order to advance in the playoffs and contend for an NBA Finals berth. However, it’s critical for strong teams to demonstrate that they can win close games without relying on outside shooting. The Thunder performed that on Saturday night.
