Prior to their playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round, the Detroit Lions have declared

themselves inactive. However, there is some exciting news: star tight end Sam LaPorta is available and will play.

LaPorta is having an incredible season, nominated for both the Pro Bowl and the

second team All-Pro, and he has set numerous tight end and rookie records. Sadly, LaPorta suffered an injury in

Week 18. Despite the fact that things didn’t seem good at first, he has steadily improved and is ready to play.

Following the placement of corner Jerry Jacobs and tight end James Mitchell on

injured reserve, the Lions had to make a few roster changes this week. The Lions added corner Chase Lucas and tight end

Anthony Firkser from their practice squad in matching moves. Detroit now has 55 players on the field for the game

after the Lions promoted defensive lineman Tyson Alualu and fullback Jason Cabinda from the practice squad.

The Lions are able to increase their game-day roster from 47 to 48 players because they will have eight offensive

linemen available for Sunday’s contest. Consequently, the Lions must declare seven players inactive for today’s game

because there are 48 players who are eligible to play and 55 players on the gameday roster.

Lions inactives:

QB Hendon Hooker — designated as the team’s emergency quarterback

WR Kalif Raymond (knee) — Ruled out on Friday

DT Brodric Martin

EDGE Julian Okwara

EDGE Charles Harris

CB Steven Gilmore

S Tracy Walker

Unless both of Detroit’s other quarterback options are sidelined by

injury, Hooker will again be the Lions’ backup quarterback and will not play in

today’s game. Hooker would then be permitted to join the game and become active.

Donovan Peoples-Jones appears to be the most likely candidate to take over as the starting wide receiver and punt returner in Raymond’s absence.

Despite being healthy, Okwara, Harris, and Martin will not play this week due to a healthy roster, particularly on the defensive line.

Similarly, Walker won’t play because C.J. Gardner Johnson is back, and Gilmore is

once again a healthy scratch for the Lions’ secondary.
