The NBA trade deadline looms in a few weeks, and all of the teams in the league are assessing their individual circumstances and potential next steps.

Teams that stay put or even trade intriguing parts that might fit better will be there in addition to those that buy and sell.

Grant Williams of the Dallas Mavericks is one guy that may benefit a change of

scenery and should pique the interest of rival teams. He was regarded as one of

the league’s most influential players before this season, having played for the

Boston Celtics, but he has had a very difficult 2023–24 season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder could absolutely use a piece like Williams. At 25 years old, he fits OKC’s timeline but also can help the team win today. Again, he is struggling this season but holistically is known for being a reliable perimeter shooter who can pass and rebound well.

Oklahoma City could provide tremendous flexibility to Dallas in its pursuit to build a contender. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are both incredible pieces, but the Mavs need that third star. Whether it’s Pascal Siakam or someone else around the league, the

Thunder could act as a third party and give the Mavericks picks or young

players to help facilitate that type of deal while acquiring someone like Williams.

Given the amount of future draft capital and young players Oklahoma City has,

this is a team that could really help any team facilitate a blockbuster deal.

Given that Grant’s value is probably at an all-time low, it’s unclear if Dallas would want to sell him at this point, but he hasn’t gelled with the Mavericks thus far. Maybe by the deadline, a second change of scenery would help him get back on track. He would be a fantastic asset off the bench for the Thunder, especially in the postseason, if he could return to the form of player he was in Boston.
